The Rebel Internship Program offers a structured, not-for-credit internship option through Career Services. It is a free service, designed for students who are not receiving academic credit for their internship and want to build experiential learning in their respective field. Students participating will complete an approved semester or summer long internship and pre-determined requirements.
Students enrolled in the program will receive official University recognition through course number IDS 299, as a zero-credit transcript notation. This notation could be a benefit for employment or graduate school applications. Students will contact Career Services for the
call number to register for the IDS 299 course. The Rebel Internship Program is offered fall, spring and summer sessions.
Students who wish to participate in the Rebel Internship Program are expected to complete the following prerequisites and requirements.
Prerequisites
- Must be in at least his or her third semester of coursework and have completed 30 hours of coursework.
- Must have a clear sense of career direction and/or a declared major.
- Must be an admitted student and in good standing with the university, with no probationary status.
- Must complete the Rebel Internship Readiness Quiz and meet with a career advisor to determine if the Rebel Internship Program is a good fit for the student.
Student Requirements
- Register through UNLV CareerLink.
- Complete the "Basic Info" section in the Exp. Learning section of CareerLink, learning objectives, release form, and evaluations. Student completes midpoint and final evaluation of the internship site.
- Complete 150 hours of work for one semester (10 hours/week for 15 weeks) that is verified by the supervisor in the employer's final evaluation of the student.
- Attend a one-hour seminar/discussion group, held at the beginning of the experience.
- Attend the Mid-Point Meeting
- Complete online Mid-Point and Final Evaluations.
Student Responsibility
As a participant in this internship, students are required to do the following.
- Actively seek and secure an internship opportunity.
- Notify Career Services that an internship has been secured.
- Meet all deadlines and requirements set with Career Services for program completion.
- Identify a clear set of learning objectives.
- Understand the duties, hours, compensation, and duration of internship.
- Report any changes in the work assignment, supervisor name, contact information, etc.
- Act professionally, demonstrate a good work ethic, and comply with organization's policies.
- Complete all projects required by supervisor.
- Communicate openly with supervisor.
Career Services Responsibility
- Provide education and information to students, employers, and faculty.
- Serve as the central administrative arm for all aspects of the Rebel Internship Program.
- Assist students in identifying potential employers.
- Orient students and employers to the program.
- Maintain student and employer online files.
- Act as a general resource for intern and employer.
- Resolve problems as they arise.
- Provide clarification and interpretation of policies.
