In this final year, your student will focus on a specific career objective. By this time, seniors will have researched organizations and will be ready to explore the job market.
Partnerships
Consider providing additional support to enhance the career resources, services, and programs of Career Services:
- Become a friend of Career Services and promote our Corporate Partnerships to employers you know.
- Refer potential UNLV employers to the Career Services office.
- Be a volunteer for Career Fair.
Senior Year
Student's role:
- Continue researching organization information in the Career Resources Library and on the web.
- Attend career fairs and Career Services' events.
- Discuss career opportunities and plans with faculty, advisors, counselors, and professionals in the field.
- Approach faculty and administrators to act as references.
- Discuss interests, skills, and personal qualifications related to your career field with faculty members.
- Conduct self-directed job search through networking.
- Apply for positions through UNLV CareerLink.
- Participate in On-Campus Recruiting and related Information Sessions.
- Research graduate/professional school information.
- Follow up on all contacts and send thank-you letters.
- Stay organized by keeping a log of job-search activities and employer contacts.
Parent's Role:
- Ask your son or daughter how you can help.
- Listen to the fears your son or daughter might be expressing.
- Offer to talk about career goals and how your student's interests, abilities, and values relate to his or her chosen field.
- Encourage your son or daughter to attend career fairs and other campus networking events.
- Encourage him or her to get assistance with a job search.
- Talk with your son or daughter about graduate or professional school plans.
- Listen, be patient, and try not to worry.
Career Services Role:
- Assist students in finding company information.
- Host career fairs and other networking events.
- Provide contacts with companies that are hiring through UNLV CareerLink functions, including On-Campus Recruiting and Job & Internship Postings.
